Worship Matters SESSION
Three Anthems of Worthy | May 2025
We often say or sing, “Jesus is worthy,” but that’s an incomplete thought. What is He worthy of?
In this SESSION, we look at the three anthems of worthy found in Revelation 4 and 5 to refocus our gaze on the matchless, unrivalled, transcendent, uncontainable, incomprehensible beauty and worth of Jesus. His worthiness will be the only fuel that sustains our worship, prayer and missions.

Three Anthems of Worthy
Central Question: What is Jesus worth?
Introduction: The Universal “Why”
The Church is being plumb-lined back to Jesus Himself.
Paul: “I determined to know nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Cor. 2:2).
Worship, prayer, and missions cannot be fueled by:
Crisis → Leads to burnout and fatigue
Need → Eventually loses motivation
Societal transformation → Often results in disillusionment
Statistics or information → Grabs attention, but doesn’t transform the heart
Only one thing sustains it all:
➡️ The unmatched beauty and worth of Jesus.
What Does “Worthy” Mean?
“Worthy” = Worth it.
Heaven never says “Jesus, You’re worthy” without finishing the sentence.
We must ask: Worthy to receive what?
How to Determine Worth (3 Principles of Value)
Quantity – How rare is it?
Quality/Performance – Does it fulfill its purpose?
Sustainability/Longevity – Will it last?
These are reflected in the three anthems of Revelation.
🔥 Anthem 1: Quantity
📖 Revelation 4:11
“Worthy are You, our Lord and God… for You created all things…”
Jesus is worthy because He is the only uncreated Creator.
There is no other like Him – singular in His existence.
Everything exists because of Him.
Heaven declares His worth because there is no substitute.
📌 Key Point: His singularity makes Him worthy.
🔥 Anthem 2: Quality
📖 Revelation 5:9–10
“Worthy are You… for You were slain, and by Your blood You ransomed people for God…”
The scroll (God’s redemptive plan) could only be opened by a man.
No angel, saint, ruler, philosopher, or revivalist could open it.
Only Jesus, the God-Man, had the quality:
Conquered death and hell
Fulfilled prophecy (Lion of Judah, Root of David)
Spotless Lamb, slain but standing victorious
Has all seven spirits of God – perfect wisdom and power
He performed the ultimate task — securing redemption and ruling justly.
📌 Key Point: His perfect performance and sinless sacrifice make Him worthy.
🔥 Anthem 3: Longevity
📖 Revelation 5:11–12
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive…”
Eternity joins the song: myriads upon myriads of angels.
Jesus is worthy to receive:
Power – All authority belongs to Him.
Wealth – All resources are His.
Wisdom – His ways are higher.
Might – All strength flows from Him.
Honor – Let His name be exalted.
Glory – He alone is to be magnified.
Blessing – All praise belongs to Him.
Jesus is not a trend. His kingdom has no end.
📌 Key Point: His eternal nature and reign make Him worthy.
Response: What Do You Think of the Lamb?
Heaven’s worship is fueled not by fear or need, but by beholding the Lamb.
If we see what heaven sees, our lives will become incense — endless praise.
The cry of the Moravians: “May the Lamb receive the reward of His suffering.”
Application
Why Worship? Why Missions? Why Pray Night and Day?
Because Jesus is uniquely worthy (Quantity)
Because Jesus is supremely capable (Quality)
Because Jesus is eternally enthroned (Longevity)
